Selamat Datang and welcome to the Faculty of Engineering, Multimedia University.

The Multimedia University aims to “develop wholesome individuals, whose qualities are intellectualism, professionalism and self-discipline with the common core of humanistic and ethical values” (the Hon. Chancellor YABhg. Dato’ Seri Dr. Siti Hasmah bte Hj Mohd. Ali at the University’s 3rd convocation on 30th March 2002).

This Faculty, being one of the forward-looking engineering faculties in Malaysia, strives to produce graduates who will spearhead nation building in the Information Age and bridge the Digital Divide. The Faculty's mission is to train multi-skilled engineering graduates who are able to spearhead scientific and technological innovation and wealth creation in this new millennium. This learned community of engineers would be able to initiate, collect, preserve and disseminate the state-of-the-art knowledge. These graduates of high moral integrity and ethics will become leaders who can analyse situations systematically based on sound fundamental laws of nature, and possess the instinct for creativity and innovation.

The Faculty has been vibrant and dynamic since its inception in 1997. The undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of the faculty have been constantly reviewed and revised, in line with the ever changing business and industry environment. New programmes have also been introduced, not just in response to existing human resource needs but well ahead of the emergence of future needs of the industry and nation. The active and extensive research work carried out in the faculty has also resulted in significant output. New knowledge and technology created has been disseminated through papers published in international journals and conferences of high standing, and patents filed. For example, the faculty achieved a publication rate of 0.8 international journal papers per lecturer and secured a total of RM3 million external research funding for the year 2002/2003. These have been achieved with the support from the government and many companies such as NTT, Intel, Alcatel, Matsushita, Nokia, National Semiconductor, Motorola, Ericsson etc. The emphasis and tremendous effort that we have put in to enhance the research and teaching activities at the faculty is based on the philosophy that we strongly hold to: “Excellent faculty through excellent research and teaching”.

This CD publication has been prepared to provide you with a comprehensive idea of the courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, the services and other relevant information needful to you.

Make full use of the resources and opportunities provided by the Faculty and the University. I hope you enjoy your stay with us.

Sincerely yours,

Professor Chuah Hean Teik
